With Jacksonville only being about 2.5 hours from Savannah, we decided to take a mini vacation to see what it was all about! As a lot of y’all know, I’ve lived in Jax my entire life (32 years) and have never had any opportunity to visit Savannah so when we were looking for a mini trip close to home I immediately suggested Savannah! It was a great time but we ended up leaving two days early [more about that later] The drive into savannah is so cute! We went in the middle of the week so we basically saw all the college kids! Savannah is home to SCAD, they own a ton of the buildings in the historic district so it was a little like a college campus, which was totally fine!
We stayed in the most beautiful hotel, it’s called JW Marriott Savannah Plant District. It use to be an old power plant and they turned it into a hotel. It had the most geodes and a 60 ft dinosaur skeleton, it was crazy! It was a museum along with a hotel so people were constantly in and out. On top of being a museum, it also had a very nice bar and steakhouse. Thankfully the hotel made you have to have a key to get on the floors where our room was.
The first day we arrived we walked around the river, looked in some shops and did a lot of people-watching! For it to of been a Wednesday afternoon, there was a lot going on! We ate dinner at this creole place that honestly was not good at all. They had beignets and that was about the best part. What I didn’t realize was that Savannah was a huge bar scene, so with us not being drinkers, there wasn’t a lot for us to do. We finished up dinner and walked around a little more and called it an early night.
The next morning we woke up and ate breakfast at Maple Street Biscuit, which was good, but I already knew it would be because we have the same here in Jacksonville! After breakfast, we booked a trolly ride around the town and honestly, that was the highlight of the trip! We were able to stop at any of the 15 stops, get off look around, and then wait for another trolly to come by and scoop us up! We did that literally all day! The trolly ran until 5 pm. You can book the tour here via Old Town Trolly Tours! It was $40 for the day and as I said, it was the best decision so we were able to see it all. After our trolly tour, we strolled around some more and ate dinner at Half Moon, again, probably wouldn’t recommend it. It was basically bar food and was not great. After that, we had a ghost tour booked! Which again was so fun! Savannah is known to be the most haunted town in the US so it was awesome to pretend! We booked it through Ghost City Tours. Afterward, we went back to the hotel packed our stuff, and got ready to leave bright and early Friday morning!
Even though I won’t go back to Savannah for food or entertainment, the historic district itself was very beautiful with all the flowers blooming for spring! Have you ever been to Savannah Georgia? Let me know what your favorite part is!
